1st Nepalese Ski Expedition in Mera Peak

In September 2016, NFSS conducted its first ski expedition of Mera peak. The expedition team included Nepali guides; Pasang Rinzee Sherpa (Dolakha), Ningma DorjeeTamang(Dolakha) and Pemba Sherpa (Solukhumbu);JuliusSeidenader (Germany) and Matthias Luerscher(Switzerland) as ski instructors. Before the ascent, skiers were trained in crevasse rescue technique, avalanche rescue training, and ski touring. The expedition was supported by the Government of Nepal ministry of culture, tourism and civil aviation Nepal Mountain Academy, and The Khumbu Climbing Centre (KCC). This ski expedition set a new milestone in the history of mountaineering in Nepal, as it showed the value of ski and rescue training that NFSS provides, not only for the individuals but also for the entire sector.
